In the Book of Mormon there is a story where Jesus appears to a man known simply as the 'Brother of Jared.' The story happened thousands of years before Jesus was born but the brother of Jared saw Jesus in the form of a man. He thought that Jesus had "flesh and blood." Jesus corrected him saying, "Behold, this body, which ye now behold, is the body of my spirit; and man have I created after the body of my spirit; and even as I appear unto thee to be in the spirit will I appear unto my people in the flesh." Ether 3:16
What does it mean? Body of my Spirit? Aren't spirits supposed to be ephemeral things like mist or something? What are your thoughts?

It makes perfect sense to my mind. We were created after the image of God, yet, we don't all look alike, so we can safely assume he did not mean our faces would all look like his. We can then infer that we were created with his characteristics. We were created after the image of God. God looks like a human, therefore, WE look like humans.
ReplyDeleteWhich sets us up for the "body of my spirit" thing. Even in Genesis it tells us that all things were created spiritually before they were created physically ("... These are the generations oft he heavens and of the earth when they were created . . . every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew . . ." Genesis 2:4-5)
So if all things were created physically before they were spiritually, and We were created in the Image of God, it stands to reason that our spirits would look like our bodies, or rather, that our bodies would look like our spirits did before them.
